UrbanV is ready to take urban air mobility to the skies with AWS
The Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) leader will work with AWS to develop city-wide infrastructure for electric flying taxis, with the first flights planned in Rome by 2025.
ROME, August 4, 2023: UrbanV, the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) company, has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its cloud provider, receiving support for the construction of transport networks for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) vehicles, which will enable a revolution in sustainable urban transport. UrbanV is working in collaboration with AWS Professional Services (ProServ) to develop and operate its vertiport networks, which will be used by eVTOLs to transport passengers within city centers. This allows UrbanV to leverage AWS's expertise as the leading global cloud provider for airlines and airports. AWS will help develop an innovative and scalable operating model for vertiports, which can be extended internationally over the next few years. UrbanV has set itself the ambitious goal of launching its first eVTOL service from Rome Fiumicino Airport to the center of Rome by the end of 2024, ready to transport visitors arriving in the city for the 2025 Jubilee. From 2026 onwards, the Rome network will expand to have 10 vertiports, enabling fast, traffic-free travel between popular transit hubs and tourist destinations. At the same time, UrbanV will launch vertiport networks in Venice, Bologna, and on the French Côte d'Azur, giving travelers faster, more sustainable alternatives to busy city streets and traditional transport.
Over the next five years, the company plans to invest several hundred million euros to scale its model across Europe and the world. Amazon Web Services will play a key role in developing the operating model for UrbanV vertiports, which will leverage AWS cloud technology to automate the passenger experience, making check-in and security procedures simple, reducing the need for space, and allowing the vertiports themselves to integrate into urban spaces. Passengers will receive personalized real-time updates, with travel plans automatically modified in case of connecting flight delays, omnichannel check-in, and intrinsic flexibility.
"Our vision of electric urban air transport is focused on reinventing the flight experience," said Carlo Tursi, CEO of UrbanV. "In AWS, we recognized the ideal cloud partner to turn this vision into reality. Their unparalleled experience in the air transport industry brings deep sector knowledge, and their thirst for innovation makes them the ideal partner to create new possibilities. Together we will develop a revolutionary urban travel experience, not only in terms of the vehicles involved, but also from the passenger experience perspective."
