UrbanV and Korea Airports Corporation join forces to develop an Advanced Air Mobility ecosystem
UrbanV, operator of the Italian vertiport network, and Korea Airports Corporation (KAC), operator of 14 national airports at the forefront of vertiport development for Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), have signed an agreement to develop vertiport networks and expand the AAM ecosystem. This collaboration will also create potential synergies for future vertiport development projects for Urban Air Mobility (UAM) transport.
Rome, Thursday, October 31 – UrbanV and KAC will collaborate on various activities, including the creation of ecosystems and the exchange of technical, operational, and regulatory expertise and data.
UrbanV's regulatory know-how, also the result of the experience gained in contributing to the definition of Italy's first AAM regulation, and KAC's expertise in defining air corridors will come together in a strategic cooperation for the future design, construction, and management of vertiport networks.
Drawing on its aviation sector expertise, KAC is in fact developing an internal vertiport system and preparing the vertiport infrastructure for the country's first commercial AAM operations, on Jeju Island and in the southern coastal region.
UrbanV and KAC intend to share data and best practices on UAM activities and grant access to their respective UAM ecosystems to provide concrete support for UAM feasibility assessment and analysis with stakeholders, including aircraft operators, location owners, industrial partners, regulatory bodies, and more.
The collaboration between UrbanV and KAC represents a fundamental step toward the launch of Advanced Air Mobility: mutual learning and benchmarking are strategic elements that will enable safe, efficient, and sustainable operations in the skies of cities in the near future.
Carlo Tursi, CEO of UrbanV, said: "UrbanV's goal is to improve people's lives by offering a fast, efficient, safe, and environmentally friendly alternative to existing transport solutions for the short-haul air transport of cargo and people. We aspire to become a major global operator of vertiport networks and to be global pioneers in defining the first Advanced Air Mobility routes worldwide. We are excited to partner with Korea Airports Corporation, a global leader in its field, and look forward to exploring new opportunities together to improve connectivity with South Korea within the AAM ecosystem."
Jeong Ki Lee, Interim President of KAC, said: "I believe the strategic partnership with UrbanV, a global leader with the highest capabilities in the UAM vertiport area, is the first step in introducing Korea Airports Corporation's (KAC) technology and expertise abroad. We will continuously work to strengthen the competitiveness of Korean technology in the UAM field by expanding our collaborations abroad."
